Oracle EBS 11.5.10 went into Sustaining Support in 2013, presenting Atkins with a decision: go ahead with a forced upgrade, or break out of the traditional ERP upgrade cycle and drive its own roadmap. At the same time, Atkins wanted to embark on a hybrid IT strategy and implement a series of emerging cloud-based applications for HCM, payroll, recruiting and benefits that would enhance its established EBS system.

Atkins moved support for its Oracle products — not only EBS but also Oracle Database and Oracle Fusion Middleware — to Rimini Street. In doing so, Atkins changed the way it looked at dedicating resources by reinvesting cost savings and shifting attention to innovation rather than self-support or unnecessary upgrades. Not only was Atkins’ team receiving more responsive attention for basic ERP support issues, but they no longer had to devote resources to support their EBS customizations and extensions.
