Habitat for Humanity – Greater Fredericksburg, Virginia

A home is more than a shelter, it is the place where families gather and dreams take flight. Habitat for Humanity is a globally recognized organization that helps make home ownership possible for those who are willing to work for it. By requiring the selected applicants to put in “sweat equity” into their home as a volunteer builder, graduate from their financial education program and homeowner training, and maintain healthy financials for long-term success, Habitat for Humanity is able to secure a bright future for their clients.

While the homes are sold without a profit, it takes thousands of volunteer hours to build it from scratch and maintain it afterwards. Rimini Street Team Viriginia was more than excited to answer the call of duty and had a terrific time too! While only a couple of us had experience with carpentry, we were given precise instructions and guidance for wall building (and erecting!) and managed to put up 3 walls within hours. We hammered, sawed, lifted, fitted, and laughed from morning until afternoon, and celebrated the perfect afternoon with high fives, secret messages written into the walls, and good eats afterwards.

Having participated in the building of an everlasting home, we can see why Habitat for Humanity is former President Jimmy Carter’s all-time favorite charity. He is currently 95 and not shy about hoisting his tools to build a future for America!
