In today’s competitive business landscape, CFOs and CIOs are finding themselves creating a stronger bond between the two critical functions. A few of the main factors of this evolving relationship are the need to steer their organisations toward technology platforms that are flexible enough to meet fast-changing business needs while being acutely aware of the budgetary impact of their decisions and driving maximum ROI from their investments.

This report of more than 1500 CIOs and CFOs surveyed across EMEA explores how these key business leaders are working together, and how the collaboration between the two is helping to identify which IT investments are of highest priority, and which have failed to deliver value – and how they are taking action to fund innovation in emerging technology and security.

Who’s in the driver’s seat for technology decisions?

Respondents agree that CFOs are taking the lead role in setting technology investment budgets. The fact that CFO respondents saw themselves in the driver’s seat for budget levels comes as no surprise, but the report also reveals a growing number of CFOs making the underlying technology decisions.

Overall, the survey results suggest that business and technology leaders both share a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for IT decision-making, with a push-pull between the two areas of business on who’s in charge of the IT roadmap.
