FAQs
Is vSAN no longer offered as a perpetual license?
Broadcom no longer sells vSAN as a perpetual license. Broadcom announced the end of sale of vSAN perpetual licenses in December 2023 and are now only offering a subscription-based model for their customers. Once support for your version of vSAN ends, you will no longer receive access to new patches and updates from Broadcom, unless you’ve been given a grace period. When is Broadcom ending general support for vSAN 7?
Broadcom implemented the End of General Support (EoGS) date for vSAN 7 on October 2, 2025. As such, Broadcom does not provide security patches, maintenance updates or technical assistance.
What are my available options for ongoing vSAN support?
If you don’t currently have support for your vSAN environment, you have four primary options.
One option is to migrate all of some of your vSAN footprints to an alternative hypervisor or modernize with a hybrid containerized environment. Another option is to support your own vSAN environment in-house. Your third option is to transition to Broadcom’s subscription-based support model, which could result in increased costs and greater vendor lock-in.
