What is VMware Aria Operations?
VMware Aria Operations is the intelligence layer that powers visibility, automation and performance optimization across the virtual infrastructure. The platform uses AI to monitor, analyze, provide alerts and perform capacity planning across multi-cloud and VMware environments.
What is the new name for vRealize Operations?
The new name for vRealize Operations is VMware Aria Operations. This change was made as part of Broadcom’s rebranding of the vRealize suite to the VMware Aria suite in 2022.
How are Broadcom’s changes to perpetual licenses affecting Aria Operations?
Broadcom is no longer selling perpetual licenses across the entire VMware portfolio, including all the products within the Aria Suite such as Aria Operations, Aria Automation, Aria Operations for Logs and Aria Operations for Networks. All VMware products, including Aria Operations, are now sold through subscription bundles. The two subscription bundles that include Aria Operations products are VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). This means that you are no longer able to purchase Aria Operations as a standalone product. You must access the product within a VVF or VCF subscription.
These subscription bundles can lead to higher costs and reduced flexibility. If your organization needs advanced capabilities like Automation or Network insight, your only option is to transition to VCF, which is costly and includes features your organization may not benefit from.

Is it necessary to upgrade VMware Aria Operations?
Once support for your Aria Operations perpetual license expires, you lose access to security patches and updates from Broadcom. Broadcom will only issue patches for critical vulnerabilities in Aria Operations if you have the latest version of Aria Operations (8.18x and above), leaving your infrastructure open to active exploits and security threats.
