Saving Monday Morning: SAP expertise in action

Garth Adcock is the VP of SAP Service Delivery at Rimini Street with 20 years of experience in large SAP systems implementations, global roll outs and managed services working across various industries.

My favorite part of the job is working with our highly skilled engineers located in 17 countries globally who help our clients with their day-to-day issues. Each day, we’re working alongside our amazing clients to really help them extend the life and value of their SAP environments. The types of issues we’re helping organizations with are very unique. It can be complex stuff and it’s always challenging. We get to see something new every day and see how these issues can significantly impact our clients’ operations. It’s rewarding when we resolve those complicated issues and to see the client appreciation that my team gets afterwards.

I bring over 20 years of experience to every client I work with. Over time, one of the biggest concerns I hear from clients is this pressure of the unknown. It’s the pressure of the ever-evolving technology landscape—the pressure of constantly staying ahead of the next game-changing technology. And it’s the pressure they’re getting from vendors to upgrade to maintain full vendor support or migrate to a different, cloud-based system without a solid business case and not knowing what it could mean. There’s a lot of cost, risk and disruption associated with large-scale migrations. What’s the return? Is there an ROI from migrating and getting locked into a vendor’s roadmap? Alternatively, could we get better results faster by optimizing existing systems and pursuing a composable ERP roadmap? I think understanding all that and how that’s going to affect them is probably one of the biggest issues that IT leaders face.

By coming to Rimini Street, our clients not only get better support, but we also help them stay on their current SAP platforms that are still delivering value and are highly performant. We don’t force upgrades, which is important whether you have a defined IT roadmap or are still evaluating your future and where your IT strategy needs to go to get there.

How this SAP Expert Saved Monday Morning

One of my favorite stories across the hundreds of clients I’ve worked with was when we were able to save Monday morning for one of our large manufacturing clients running SAP. On Monday morning, the business was expected to be up and running. The outage window they’d set for maintenance was almost up, but their SAP system was not ready to go. A Monday morning outage could potentially lead to employees not working, products not produced, and sales not made. When the client engaged us, we sprang into action.

In the video, I detail how we dug into that Priority 1 Sunday morning ticket. Though it looked like a simple data synchronization issue, we found a much deeper issue related to table inconsistencies and operability between their production and development environments. Due to our quick action, deep expertise and 24/7/365 support model, our team helped their team get back up and running. So, on that Monday all they had to worry about was who’s going to make the morning coffee and doughnuts run.
