American Cancer Society Funds Life-Saving Work by Switching to Rimini Street

Significant cost reduction and quality support for Siebel environment benefit organization’s primary goal

LAS VEGAS, September 14, 2015Rimini Street, Inc., the leading global independent provider of enterprise software support services for SAP SE’s (NYSE:SAP) Business Suite and BusinessObjects software and Oracle Corporation’s (NYSE:ORCL) Siebel, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, E-Business Suite, Oracle Database, Oracle Middleware, Hyperion and Oracle Retail, is working with the American Cancer Society to save the non-profit organization money from its CRM maintenance budget that can be put into its cancer-fighting programs and services.

“Every CIO’s challenge is trying to do more with less. In the case of the American Cancer Society, every dollar that I can take back is a dollar that can go towards valuable life-saving research and initiatives,” said Jay Ferro, chief information officer, American Cancer Society. “So from a pure cost standpoint, our decision to move to Rimini Street was the right one to make. When you add in the breadth of support, the high quality of their support team and their responsiveness, it is clear that Rimini Street delivers better value than that provided by our software vendor.”

With 2.5 million volunteers and about 6,000 staff members nationwide, the Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization and one of the most trusted sources of cancer information worldwide. The Society has invested $4.3 billion in research since 1946 and played a role in nearly every cancer breakthough in recent history. It is the largest investor in cancer research other than the United States federal government.

Two years ago, the Society reorganized its 12 separate divisions into a central organization to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Ferro decided to switch to Rimini Street support to reduce the organization’s annual maintenance fees by 50 percent and was able to direct the funds back into the organization’s budget to help fund its core initiatives. Additionally, the organization gained support for its customizations at no extra charge and benefitted from Rimini Street’s premium-level support, including a 24x7x365 service model with an assigned Primary Support Engineer (PSE) and guaranteed support for up to 15 years with no required upgrades or migrations.

“Rimini Street helps the American Cancer Society on multiple fronts by allowing us to maximize our existing Siebel environment across the entire organization,” added Ferro. “Siebel is our core CRM software, and it provides everything required to manage all of our worldwide volunteers, donors and anyone else who interacts with the Society – it’s the backbone of our mission-based work. We needed a partner who could not only provide support for this critical system, but also help extend the life of the system.”

The American Cancer Society is also leveraging Rimini Street Technology Support Services (TSS) to help ensure that its Siebel release remains a stable, reliable and compliant platform in the long-term. TSS provides Rimini Street clients with a comprehensive suite of services specifically designed to enable them to address new opportunities and challenges in today’s changing IT landscape. To this end, Rimini Street’s TSS organization provided an efficient solution using a virtualized Internet Explorer browser and browser plugin from a partner to enable the Society to upgrade thousands of desktop operating systems and applications to current versions of Windows and Internet Explorer – without any required upgrade to the existing Siebel platform. Rimini Street TSS and ACS are now working together to add the benefits of mobility to the Society’s Siebel system by enabling the mobile devices, iPads, smartphones and laptops of millions of volunteers and an extended workforce to access the Siebel CRM data.

“The American Cancer Society has made it their priority and passion to invest every dollar where it counts the most, and Rimini Street helps the Society achieve this goal by delivering much greater value on their maintenance spend for Siebel and helping them maximize the return on their existing software investment,” said Seth Ravin, Rimini Street CEO. “By providing a robust set of services beyond break/fix support, such as our Technology Support Services, Rimini Street is able to give Oracle and SAP licensees a choice of if, when, and how to invest in upgrades, and Rimini Street is able to work with its clients to help them develop and plan a technology IT roadmap for at least the next 15 years.”
